{"id":4085,"date":"2026-04-08T10:29:44","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T03:29:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ptst.training\/wordpress\/?post_type=course&#038;p=4085"},"modified":"2026-04-11T06:06:54","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T23:06:54","slug":"foet-tsbb","status":"publish","type":"course","link":"https:\/\/ptst.training\/wordpress\/course\/foet-tsbb\/","title":{"rendered":"Further Offshore Emergency Training &#038; Travel Safely by Boat Initial Training (FOET with TSbB)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Introduction<\/h3>\n<p>The OPITO Further Offshore Emergency Training with Travel Safely by Boat Initial Training (FOET with TSbB) combines the standard FOET refresher programme with OPITO Travel Safely by Boat (TSbB) Initial Training in a single course for offshore personnel who travel to installations by both helicopter and boat.<\/p>\n<p>The FOET component refreshes and revalidates the emergency response skills that cannot be adequately maintained through offshore drills alone. This includes helicopter underwater escape training with Emergency Breathing System (EBS), firefighting and self-rescue techniques, and emergency first aid. Practical training focuses on maintaining the competence originally developed during BOSIET or previous FOET training.<\/p>\n<p>The TSbB component introduces the knowledge and practical skills required for safe transfer between vessels and offshore installations. This includes swing rope transfers, correct use of marine flotation devices, boat transfer safety procedures, and emergency actions during marine incidents.<\/p>\n<p>Delivered in accordance with OPITO Product Codes 5808 (FOET) and 5605 (Travel Safely by Boat Initial), successful completion of the programme refreshes the learner\u2019s offshore emergency training certification and provides Travel Safely by Boat certification, both valid for four years.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3>Who Needs FOET with TSbB Training?<\/h3>\n<p>FOET with TSbB is intended for offshore personnel whose OPITO offshore safety certification is approaching its expiry date and who also require Travel Safely by Boat training for installations accessed by boat.<\/p>\n<p>The programme is particularly suited to personnel who regularly travel to offshore installations by both helicopter and boat, or whose operating company requires TSbB certification alongside the standard FOET refresher.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3>Scope<\/h3>\n<p>This combined programme brings together the requirements of the Further Offshore Emergency Training (FOET) refresher and Travel Safely by Boat Initial Training for personnel engaged in offshore operations involving helicopter and boat travel.<\/p>\n<p>The programme covers helicopter safety and escape with EBS (refresher), sea survival and in-water rescue techniques, firefighting and self-rescue (refresher), emergency first aid (refresher), and safe boat transfer procedures.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3>General Course Objectives<\/h3>\n<p>The objectives of this training are that learners will be able to:<\/p>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li>Demonstrate, in a simulated environment, that they can use safety equipment and follow procedures in preparing for and during helicopter emergencies, with particular focus on escaping from a helicopter following ditching using Emergency Breathing System (EBS) equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate that they can use basic firefighting equipment effectively, and use self-rescue techniques in low-visibility and completely obscured visibility situations.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate that they can perform basic first aid.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate awareness of the risks associated with travelling and transferring by boat to offshore installations, and correct use of personal flotation equipment, safe boat transfer methods, and appropriate emergency actions during boat-related incidents.<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Course Content<\/h3>\n<h4>Further Helicopter Safety and Escape with Emergency Breathing System (EBS)<\/h4>\n<p>This unit refreshes learners\u2019 helicopter travel and emergency response competence for offshore operations where a rebreather Emergency Breathing System (EBS) is issued, extending the standard FOET helicopter escape exercise sequence with full EBS integration. Theoretical learning reviews all standard helicopter emergency procedures, together with the principles and duration of EBS, flotation dynamics associated with EBS use, and correct donning and operating procedures. Practical exercises are conducted using a Survival Systems METS\u2122 (Modular Egress Training Simulator) Model 40 in our HUET pool facility, supervised by OPITO-qualified HUET safety divers.<\/p>\n<p>The full exercise sequence includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Donning an aviation transit suit, aviation lifejacket, and EBS equipment, and conducting integrity checks<\/li>\n<li>Deploying, operating, and breathing from EBS equipment at atmospheric pressure in dry conditions<\/li>\n<li>Deploying, operating, and breathing from EBS in a pool, experiencing positive and negative pressure from body orientation in water<\/li>\n<li>Actions in preparing for a helicopter ditching or emergency landing<\/li>\n<li>Dry evacuation via a nominated emergency exit into an aviation liferaft from a helicopter ditched on water, including EBS deployment and push-out window operation, with initial liferaft actions<\/li>\n<li>Assisting others on boarding the aviation liferaft and carrying out secondary actions (lookouts, radio beacons, first aid equipment)<\/li>\n<li>Escaping from a partially submerged helicopter with EBS deployed and operating, without push-out window<\/li>\n<li>Escaping from a partially submerged helicopter with EBS deployed and operating, with push-out window<\/li>\n<li>Escaping from a capsized helicopter with EBS deployed prior to capsize, using a push-out window, inflating a lifejacket, deploying a spray visor, and carrying out in-water procedures \u2014 swimming, HELP position, towing, chain, huddle, and circle<\/li>\n<li>Boarding an aviation liferaft from the water<\/li>\n<li>Being rescued by one of the recognised methods available offshore<\/li>\n<li>Mustering, donning a lifejacket, and boarding and strapping in as a TEMPSC passenger<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<h4>Further Firefighting and Self-Rescue<\/h4>\n<p>This unit refreshes learners\u2019 firefighting competence and self-rescue skills for offshore operations, covering theoretical knowledge, practical extinguisher use on live fires, and self-rescue techniques under smoke-obscured conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Theoretical learning reviews the principles of fire behaviour, raising the alarm, correct selection and operation of portable fire extinguishers for Class A and Class B fires, and self-rescue procedures in areas of reduced and completely obscured visibility. Practical exercises include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Raising the alarm on the discovery of a fire<\/li>\n<li>Correct operation of handheld portable fire extinguishers \u2014 water or foam, CO\u2082, and dry chemical \u2014 on Class A and Class B fires<\/li>\n<li>Self-rescue with a smoke hood or partial blindfold from an area of reduced visibility<\/li>\n<li>Self-rescue with a smoke hood or partial blindfold from an area of completely obscured visibility<\/li>\n<li>Small group escape with smoke hoods or partial blindfolds from an area of completely obscured visibility, concluding with a muster exercise<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>Further Emergency First Aid<\/h4>\n<p>This unit refreshes learners\u2019 emergency first aid knowledge and practical skills relevant to offshore operations. The delivery focuses on consolidating and enhancing learning from the learner\u2019s previous BOSIET, FOET, T-BOSIET, or T-FOET training.<\/p>\n<p>Theoretical learning reviews first aid arrangements offshore, types of injuries (including bleeding, burns, and chemical contact), prioritising actions in a casualty situation, immediate first aid actions prior to the arrival of medical assistance (including assessing the situation, making the area safe, attending to unconscious casualties, and summoning help), raising the alarm, checking airways and breathing, and placing a casualty in the recovery position.<\/p>\n<p>Practical first aid exercises include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Raising the alarm and assessing the situation<\/li>\n<li>Checking the area is safe<\/li>\n<li>Industry-recognised first aid practice including CPR, airway management, and recovery position<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<h4>Travel Safely by Boat Initial Training<\/h4>\n<p>This unit equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to travel and transfer safely between vessels and offshore installations by boat. Theoretical learning covers pre-boarding procedures, safe boarding and disembarkation, in-transit safety requirements, personnel transfer procedures, the hazards associated with boat fenders and vessel-to-platform distances, different types of transfer baskets, and correct methods for safe basket transfers.
